Variety is the spice of life and this series is certainly well seasoned! What is aspect(s) of the trilogy do you enjoy most - history, romance, paranormal, magic, science, alchemy, locations, diversity, genetics, literature...fill in the blank!...?Ooooh, it's so hard to choose because I savor it all (and admit to having to read a bit more carefully during the genetics portions. Truly fascinating however!), but my favorite aspect of the series is history. I love how Deb has written her own rules for the magical All Souls Trilogy universe. Within that, there is so much history that goes along with an ancient family and a 1500 year old vampire. I admit to falling in love with Matthew's Sept-Tours library - the books and ledgers -- chock full of famous writers, pioneers, first editions and explanations of Knights of Lazarus and de Clermonts in pivotal affairs throughout history. And then I had one big love affair with the Shadow of Night (for obvious historical reasons).

If I had to pick a single thing it would be how classical mythology is woven into the lives of the characters - especially the vampires. There are so many nuances to explore. And can I just say "The Trojan War"!!!

The Characters. They are rich and true to life. I like the diverse backgrounds. No one is actually "perfect". Everyone (save Benjamin) has some redeeming qualities that we can see/read about. I also like the fact that there is a lot of "grey" area. Black/White, Good/Evil characterizations are too simple. The dialogue makes you examine motives. I'd also say I love the locations. How the author is very descriptive, so you can picture where they are, the sights, the smells, etc.
And one more thing, at the risk of sounding ridiculously glib. Love knows no boundaries. It's really important for people to know and understand that. Especially in this day in age (with the US Supreme court ruling granting marriage equality)!

The way things can come to life and have a personality. The house, the book, the elements.

I adore the intense thought and careful planning that went into the novels. Everything is contextualized and decontextualized for the reader. I've never hesitated to reread the books because there is always some small nugget of information or detail that slipped away in previous readings. If I can't tear a book apart in my head, and then start to put it back together again into a satisfying construction, it doesn't tend to hold my interest for long.
tl:dr The details are for me, the most interesting aspect of the books and should the characters fail me, they keep me coming back for more.
