1. Respect each other and opinions.
We are all here for the same reason! We love talking All Souls Trilogy! A little respect goes a long way!
Sometimes our conversations veer into interesting places. Most of it is great, some of it---well, not so much! Communication online doesn't always convey the subtle nuances of language. Sometimes typed words and phrases may seem harsher or more critical than what is meant by the author. Please be patient with each other. Differing points of view happen. Healthy debates happen. Healthy debates can allow others to see different perspectives and find validity in them. This is a good thing!
Debates can also turn unhealthy and escalate quickly into arguments. In our experience, arguing rarely leads to changing someone elses opinion. If you find yourself getting upset or too emotionally involved in a conversation, please do yourself a favor: take a break, step away from the keyboard, and realize it's just a forum. We recommend Amira's yoga class! Kidding aside, we'd be lying if we said we were innocent of online scuffles, and this is a lesson that *we* had to learn to practice daily to ensure our fandom time is not mired in grief!
Some tips we've learned (the hard way!) over the years:
- USING ALL CAPS TO COMMUNICATE IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!
- Sometimes it's best to just walk away.
- Personal disagreements with another member cannot resolved on a public board. Either agree to disagree, or take it elsewhere.
- Not everyone is a super-fan (we're so guilty of this). Have patience with people just discovering the story.
- Rumors and gossip spread rapidly online. Check your sources prior to posting "breaking news." Untangling a rumor is nearly impossible. A cousin's dog-walker friend who ran into the assistant of the assistant to a big executive at a major studio is not a source! (Yes. We've run across stuff like this!)
Thank you in advance!
2. Political and religious topics should be kept to philosophical discussion as it relates to the books.
Political and religious debate is strictly prohibited elsewhere in this forum, especially the Creature Club. There are many other forums online that dedicate themselves to those types of discussions, but this is not one of them. Thank you!
3. Please keep the discussion NC 17 on the main boards
"NC-17" in the general forums please. What is that, you ask? Link here: www.yourdictionary.com/nc-17. It's the best we could come up with as far as guidelines go. Cussing/Cursing will be auto edited into the starred version. We aren't going to be terribly strict, but we ask that you use decorum. The books covers many adult topics, so we do expect the discussion to run along the same lines and occasionally touch subject matter that won't be appropriate for general audiences. We will leave it up to individual members police themselves while approaching these topics. If you want to talk about something that may not be suitable for general audiences, we suggest warning other members in the subject line: "Type your topic - Warning, discusses graphic violence." It's not mandatory, we're just suggesting it as a courtesy.
There is a section that we made "21 and over" (the 'Ancient Vampire' section), and if you are feeling racy, go in there and have at it! But please use your best judgement. Artistic nudity (again, use your judgement) only. No photos depicting pornographic or violent acts---this isn't that type of party! All members enter the Ancient Vampire section at your own risk!
4. Post in topic, please!
We'll move a post if we feel like it doesn't go with the topic category. This is really no big deal, and please don't be insulted if we move your thread. It's just to help to keep things organized as the topic load grows. It makes it easier for later search!
5. Admins will step in when we need to, however our mission is to avoid being overly intrusive.
Please remember that we are fans just like you! We have jobs, significant others, kids, pets, and responsibilities. This is our escape! No one likes online drama, but we are not afraid of stepping in when something or someone is disruptive to the overall group. Warnings will be issued by PM - let's start with a three strikes and you are out rule. We reserve the right to remove members at anytime if we deem it appropriate. Our goal is to not have to do this to anyone!
6. BEWARE OF SPOILERS!
This is a discussion forum about books. If you haven't read the books that are being discussed, key plot points will be spoiled. We tried to mitigate this by separating the trilogy in to different volumes, but it's really impossible to avoid in here. If you don't want spoilers, it's probably best to stay away from the section that is discussing the book that you haven't read yet! If you like spoilers, roam as you wish!
7. Share your offerings!
If you have an AST blog or page, an online store that sells AST goods, or you are a book blogger (no AST affiliation needed) there is a spot for you! Please share your offerings!
A return link is not necessary at all, but we would certainly appreciate it! If you do decide to link us back, link www.DaemonsDomain.com/p/the-all-souls-gathering.html or, you can link The All Souls Gathering itself: theallsoulsgathering.freeforums.net We have link buttons if you prefer using those! Find those here ---> CLICK! Thank you!
8. Have fun!
The rules are subject to change, but if/when they do, we'll always make sure to provide a summary of changes. This is a new forum and (as far as we know) the first message board format in this fandom, so this will be a huge learning experience for all of us! Stick with us, and we'll get through it.
Thank you for reading, and let's get to talking!
